Jessica Herrin shares her 6 P's for entrepreneurship.
Be invested in your work. Be passionate about it. Your passion can’t always be driven by money, but by what really drives you from inside.
Jessica Herrin dropped out of exited Stanford to begin her first business – an online wedding registry. The business grew and later sold for millions of dollars. However, she wasn’t fulfilled with what she achieved, as she wasn’t personally invested in the mission of the business she started.
She believes that discovering one’s passion doesn’t have an estimated time arrival, what you need is to truly believe in it.
Create a path in order to work towards your passion. How do you plan to make it happen and fulfil your goals?
Undoubtedly, it will be filled with setbacks and failures but don’t let that stop you. Keep going.
Don’t wait until the time is right, just start. Don’t let circumstances get in the way. Find a way to make it happen. That is how you will navigate through it.
If you are willing to learn, have a positive outlook, a bias toward action and the ability to make midcourse corrections, there’s almost nothing that can stop you from achieving your goals and dreams.
A positive mindset is a must to stay on your path and keep going.
All your thoughts are not true. Don’t let them get in the way.
Navigate through the roadblocks and make corrections if needed, all with a positive mindset.
Mindfulness is a technique to stay in the present moment. Use it to calm your mind and clear out the negative thoughts.
Instead of being angry over something that didn’t go right, reflect on it and understand the lessons you have learnt from it that will help you take the next step. Appreciate and trust that process.
Who are the people who matter most to you?
Regardless of what your deepest desires are, you won't ever arrive alone, so it is critical to be surrounded with the correct individuals. Pick individuals you partner with cautiously and mindfully.
Those who are dragging you down or are only contributing with their negative mindset- let them go. Surround yourself with people who can help you grow and support you during the process. A large part of that should be your employees.
Are you willing to develop perseverance to outlive your problems?
Building the existence you had always wanted is a long hard street, and you'll possibly get it going on the off chance that you have unprecedented endurance. Getting to where you need to go will require you to let things and people go.
Make a ‘do-not quit’ list. What are the things you absolutely cannot quit? This can include your hobbies, such as playing a sport or singing.
It is perfectly okay to quit the things that are on that list or are not your priority while building your business. Your ability to persevere becomes stronger this way.
It is important to get a lot of things done if you want to achieve your dreams.
For that, you have to say no to things that don’t align with your values and goals. That way, you can be more productive and get things done, that actually require your attention.
Managing your time is key. Which tasks can wait and which ones need to be prioritized over the others?
Everyone has 24 hours in a day and it depends on each of us how we choose to spend it. Master your time and you will be able to manage it all.
Understand where you actually spend most of your time and review it. Nobody can get it all done, the key is to focus on the priorities.
